We have begun improving our listings by introducing tune in's into our database. We track which stations get listened to more than others. This will allow us to better determine what a "Popular Radio Station" is.

The data we are gathering is updated daily with the previous 7 days of information. You will notice that on our homepage : Internet Radio Stations there is a list of the top 5 "Popular Radio Stations" sorted by tune in's rather than the old method which was listener count. We feel this better reflects what stations are truly popular on our site not just worldwide.

We have plans to perhaps incorporate more factors into the ranking of radio stations in the future. 8)

Any thoughts ?

I presume the tune ins count from any source and not just via the directory here (e.g. listen links on station website)

Counting "Tune'ins" from every source would essentially equate to the listener count. This is the method we use for normal listings at the moment on genre pages. Here is an example of the old "Popular Radio Stations" sorted by listener :

Here is the new "Popular Radio Stations" sorted by tune-ins on the site :

We feel the new way better reflects the sort of stations that would interest visitors to our site.
